Doing the blog roll analysis

OK. Haven't posted all week because I have been doing two things. One is the revisions to an article for the Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, which I finally sent back to them yesterday (Hooray). Secondly, I am ploughing on with the blogroll analysis. I have realised that it is essential to get this done as soon as possible because already one of the blogs I am studying has been closed down. So if I keep putting it off and doing things like analysing my survey data there will be no blogrolls left!
Plus, it is cold and very dark here and the water has been turned off for the day by the men digging up the road outside which means I can't even make a cup of tea. Moan.
But I hope that something approaching normal service will be returned next week.
One snippet from the analysis of the survey results that has been nagging at me though is this: far more Americans say that they blog early in the morning. Practically no Brits do this. Why is this? Are Americans used to doing things early in the morning? Is it a whole cultural thing I know nothing of? The concept of doing anything other than getting children ready for school and eating breakfast in the morning is alien to me so I would really appreciate any feedback (in the morning or the evening or whenever you like to blog).

Could it be something to do with the fact that due to time differences, Americans get up 5 hours later than us?

I don't think so - it's not something I am noticing, it's something that they TELL me in their responses to the survey. Americans like to blog early in the morning, or so they say. Few Brits have said the same thing.

Can't blog early in the morning! Need for sleep, feeding the children and school run put paid to that. Maybe they're just super organised?

While I have yet to enjoy the opportunity to visit and travel Europe myself, I have repeatedly heard some observations from others who travel and/or do business in Europe about the differences between Americans and Europeans (general).

Specifically, the American concept of working overtime, starting work at 6/7/8am and working well after 5pm, as well as taking 30 minute lunch “hours” is drastically different by comparison to many European cultures.

From what I’ve been told, Europeans can have a much more balanced approach to their work week, the hours they work, and the time they take for eating, relaxing, and other activities.

(This is not to say that there aren’t plenty of Americans who abhor the concepts of overtime, or work before 9am, and certainly Americans know how to enjoy leisure time. Neither is it to say that Europeans do not work long, hard hours in their own right).

Perhaps the trend you’re seeing is indeed in part a cultural attribute: Americans are familiar with a fast-paced, over-time-heavy schedule, which means that getting up in the morning to blog is a convenient way to blog each day but still get to work and/or started on the home-based work before the 8am rush.

I often try to post something first thing in the morning, before I settle down to my day's work. I'm one of those UK males who work from home.
